Tarantino is breaking the blockbuster stereotype and crossing over into uncharted territory: film franchises. He claims he's had a brilliant idea for the next Star Trek film and he's pitched that idea to producer and Trek director, J.J. Abrams. The two men have agreed to assemble writers to work on the screenplay while they wrap up their most recent films - Tarantino is finishing a film on Charles Manson and Abrams will be busy with episode IX of Star Wars.
If things go as planned, Tarantino will direct and Abrams will produce the new Trek film. This is new grounds for Tarantino, who always writes his own films and knows that taking on a franchise will be a lot of pressure. Trekkies everywhere are waiting to see just how much of a creative spin Tarantino will put on the script.
