An MSNBC reporter visiting the Texas detention center for migrant children likened the experience at the facility to being "effectively incarcerated". The facility, which is an abandoned Walmart building, is holding 1,400 children who have been separated from their parents at the US border.
"This place is called a 'shelter' but effectively these kids are incarcerated," Jacob Soboroff said, after touring the facility with a group of journalists. Soboroff also tweeted a photo he took while inside the building which shows a large mural painting of Donald Trump with the American flag and the White House behind him. "It’s organized chaos in there. It’s hectic but it is organized," he continued.
Trump's "zero tolerance" policy to immigration has taken on intense scrutiny, with the UN recently stating that the practice of separating children from parents at the border is unethical and illegal.
